Year 6 Girls Book Club News
It has been a delight and joy to start up a book club for the Year 6 girls in the Autumn term making use of our school library whilst encouraging reading for pleasure.
We started by reading extracts from The Dreamcatcher by Abi Elphinstone and Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell.
Before Christmas, the girls read Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell who seems to be one of their favourite authors.
Whilst discussing the story and characters, the girls carefully created their own Paris music inspired collages – some of which are on display in the library.
This first term of Spring, we have read The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It has been inspiring to listen to the girls discussing character development and symbolism whilst also creating their own secret garden dioramas using shoe boxes and various craft materials. I always try and combine book discussions with a creative activity as the girls love using their imaginations and seeking inspiration from the books they read.
